The FD EVO was not built for just one generation of cars. It is a display system that adapts its operation to the electrical conditions of each individual vehicle. With the S-EXPAND expansion module, FD EVO works seamlessly across both new-generation vehicles and classic cars, bringing a consistent display architecture to every build.

At Shadow, the golden rule of electronics development has always been simple: never disrupt the vehicle's original systems. A lot of owners worry that installing an OBDII gauge will drain the battery, and that concern was built into the FD EVO's design from day one. For vehicles with CANBUS (roughly 2014 and newer), FD EVO runs in standard OBDII mode and wakes or sleeps in sync with the ECU, making it a true plug-and-play solution.

For classic vehicles with no OBDII signal available, the OBD power adapter cable included with S-EXPAND lets the system draw power directly from the ACC line for on/off control. Even without relying on ECU data, it can still integrate external sensors and drive the display reliably, giving classic builds the same full suite of digital monitoring capabilities.
